The room where it happens.

There is a song in Hamilton (the musical) call “The room where it happens.” In it, Hamilton, Maddison and Jefferson are determining the plan for the US financial system and where the US capital will be located.  Each tells ‘their’ story on how these negations were made, but ultimately no one knows the truth, because they were the only ones in the room when it happened.  The song concludes with Aaron Burr, another political contender at the time, singing about how he has GOT to be in the room where it happens. To be part of the conversations where decisions are being made to shape their future.

This is the song that comes to my mind when I think on the upcoming National Conference (June 9-11). As we prepare and plan for this event, what is very clear to me is that there is a need for a lot of conversations. Conversations about the future of the church in Australia, about what matters most to us in alignment to Christ’s mission and where God is calling us. How, individually and collectively, we can best use our resources, energies and passion to share this mission and calling.

These conversations need to happen both formally on the conference floor but also casually over dinners and morning tea and moments sharing the sun shine. Together we need to feel encouragement and hear direction to understand how the choices, ministries and actions that each one makes individually contributes to the expression of the church. We need to share commitment and calling and feel supported and uplifted in this journey, together.

There is a lot to happen at National Conference and this is your invitation to the room, the room where it happens.
