The summer sun blazed hotly from a cloudless sky onto the deck of a ship moving slowly through Sydney Harbor toward the docks. Even the sea breeze which made the flags at the masthead flutter and caused the ladies on deck to hold onto their bonnets could not minimize the effects of the heat. Perspiring sailors in a turmoil of activity as the ship prepared to land wiped their foreheads with their arms, while the gentlemen standing along the rail, enjoying their first sight of the Australian coast, mopped their necks with white handkerchiefs and bent solicitously toward their wives….

In the 1840s the English Mission of the early Church sent their first missionaries to Australia from the United Kingdom. Newly baptized and ordained 17 year old William James Barrett arrived in South Australia in July 1840, where it is claimed he baptized one known convert. A year later Andrew Anderson, his wife and three children sailed from Scotland and arrived in Sydney on 6 October 1841. They settled at Montefiore in the Wellington area of NSW. By the end of 1844 Andrew Anderson had organized a branch of nine members….

As he reached the top of the hill, Glaud Rodger reined in his horse and shaded his eyes to look into the distance. It had been some time since he had passed through the town of Bulahdelah so BungwahJ should not be far ahead ... but he could see nothing. The undergrowth was too thick, and even the height of the hill did not reveal anything more than closely growing gum trees, their leaves glittering and swaying in the afternoon breeze…
