Prayers Needed for Earthquake-stricken Haiti

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Saturday morning, and a storm has lashed the country already dealing with political issues.

Apostle Art Smith has had limited contact with Community of Christ leaders in the country. Several deaths in the Chardonniere congregation, in a difficult-to-reach region, have been reported.

“It’s going to take some time to get a full report on loss of life, injuries, and damage to church property and the property of our church families,” Smith said. The epicenter of the quake was in the western part of the country near Trou de Nippes.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Grace drenched the earthquake-damaged nation. The storm was expected to dump up to 15 inches of rain on a landscape where people are huddling away from weakened buildings in fields and searching for survivors of the earthquake.
