Toward the Peaceful One: Looking Back to See Ahead
The 1919 Influenza Pandemic and the last time the State border closed
As Covid-19 prompts the closure of the Victoria/N.S.W border we reflect on the impact in our church community and the wider communities we belong to. We also look back at the last time this closure occurred, just over 100 years ago, as a consequence of the influenza epidemic of the time.
The Lower Bendoc Branch of the church, organised by Harold Velt in 1915, was much affected by the 1919 Influenza Pandemic; members being divided by the state border itself.
