Changes to Mission Centre Staff announcements

To Australian Church members and friends:

It is with understanding but also deep sadness that I am writing to make the following announcements regarding changes in Mission Centre staff:

  • Alicia Turner will not return to work after her parental leave is completed, and instead has chosen to finish her employment with the church on the 1st of July. In her letter to me, Alicia wrote:

    • It’s important that I begin with this: I love the Community of Christ…I have thoroughly considered this decision and have concluded that it is in the best interest of my personal life and the Community of Christ. I have sincerely enjoyed my time working with the Australia Mission Centre and am grateful for the valuable experiences, knowledge, and skills I have gained during my tenure. Over the past 11 years my personal life has changed immensely, and I no longer feel I am able to give all to my position. I believe it is in the best interest of the church, and me personally if someone else steps into my role providing guidance, leadership and empowerment to youth and young adults of Community of Christ to find meaning and purpose in the everyday.

Please also take a moment to read the attached letter she has prepared for the church membership.  Alicia has been working for the church for over a decade with a strong passion and commitment to youth and young people. She was instrumental in providing leadership and support in creating an authentic and meaningful community for young people through Community Plus and beyond, making a significant impact in the lives of many. I personally want to thank Alicia for her dedication and commitment to Christ’s mission and continually advocating for the engagement and involvement of youth and young adults in a difficult, ever changing landscape.

  • Emma Espinosa will also complete her role as ‘Administrative Assistant’ also effective on the 1st of July, with allowance made to assist with handover to a new person. Emma wrote:

    • This has been a difficult decision to arrive at; until this point I have always tried to give my very best to this job, however I feel that, for personal reasons, in the medium to longer term I am no longer able to contribute effectively in this role. It has been a privilege to have had the opportunities presented in working for the church, and I am thankful for the many ways that I have been able to contribute; and, for the experience and knowledge gained over the last four years.

Emma had originally decided to resign earlier in the year, but with the sadness and turmoil of John’s passing, sacrificially agreed to continue and give support up until and for the National Conference. Emma is phenomenal; not only do I know this, but I hear it at least once a week from our membership! She has provided wonderful support, professionalism, and pastoral ministry with calmness and efficiency. Personally, I am so thankful for all she has contributed in the last four years and know she will be sorely missed.

I encourage each of you to find ways to add and express your gratitude for the wonderful impact that both Alicia and Emma have been in your lives.
