At the recent Peace Summit some of us had the delight of experiencing Lara-Jane Stewart’s new song Walk Humbly . The song, written especially for our Peace Summit, reflects on the words from Mica 6:8 “…do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God.” We engaged with the words and the music and painted colours on a canvas.
Interacting with each other we walked around the canvas contemplating the words of the song and responded to each others brush marks and symbols on the paper. As the art process progressed and the images took shape, some people lost their initial hesitancy and within the group found new boldness and enjoyment. Others were aware that the process had become '“a dance”. We were invited afterwards to reflect on space and what we consider to be ‘ours’. The artwork became a visual representation of the space between us and what it means to walk humbly with God.
You are invited to take a moment to listen to Lara’s song - “What words or phrases speak to you?” Take a moment to respond with words or create your own image as you listen.
Here is our artworks that we created.
