Grants funding flows for climate and the environment

Congratulations to Dr Simon McIlroy, Research Fellow from the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences at The University of Queensland (and member of Bendigo congregation), who has been awarded a competitive research grant of $779,270 from the Australian Research Council.

This grant is for his work to characterise the evolutionary adaptations of a group of microorganisms with a key role in mitigating the release of methane into the atmosphere. The research will have an important impact on our society’s ability to predict and respond to the challenges posed by global warming.

Ferntree Gully Congregation have been awarded a grant of $3,000 from Knox City Council to assist them with tools and materials for their Community Garden.

This is exciting news for the new project, having only been started in May this year. Already such a lot of heart, soul and muscle has been put into planning and preparing and the growth of the garden will surely continue with vigor.

“A huge thank you to our permablitz designers for all their hard work over the last few months in coming up with this design. We look forward to seeing this garden grow and evolve in time with community support. We feel very blessed to be able to share this garden with everyone. 💚- Emma Ghazarian, Ferntree Gully Community Garden coordinator
