On Saturday, February 8, a large gathering celebrated the opening of the newly completed Tiona Chapel, owned and operated by Community of Christ. Dedicated to peace, unity, and service, the chapel stands as a beacon of hope and community connection.
The celebration began with a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Aunty Janise Paulson, followed by moving performances from the Green Cathedral Community Choir, Hank Meadows on harp, and Matt Dobing and Cameron Waugh on keyboard.
Acknowledgments and gratitude were offered to the architects, builders, and tradespeople, as well as the management and staff of Tiona Investments P/L. Special recognition was given to Project Manager Allan Walshe for his leadership and dedication. The facility was officially opened by Deputy Mayor Jeremy Miller of Midcoast Council.
Tiona Chaplain Wendy Ballard emceed the event, guiding the celebration with grace and concluding with a heartfelt blessing.
After the ribbon was cut and a commemorative plaque unveiled, attendees enjoyed a celebration cake, morning tea, and later gathered for a BBQ lunch. Community members were invited to explore the chapel and the iconic Green Cathedral, learn about the upcoming Funday Sunday for primary school-aged children starting in March, and discover more about Saints Care, the benevolent arm of Community of Christ, and its current programs.
The day was filled with joy, gratitude, and hope, marking a new chapter for Tiona Chapel and the communities it serves.
