Independent Accommodation
Saints Care provides housing support disadvantaged elderly community members including those on welfare through affordable accommodation. These are church owned self-care units of one/ two bedroom units at five different locations.
Accommodation includes Kalimna (Melbourne, Victoria), Murlali (Brisbane, Queensland), Alawara (Adelaide, South Australia) as well as one-off retirement village and independent units in several major Australian cities.
The availability of affordable housing presents social risks for the disadvantaged. A 2006 research paper on housing affordability commissioned by the Australian Housing and Urban Institute indicated that spending 30% of income on housing was defined as “housing stress” and spending more than 50% was defined as “housing crisis”.
